About the Project.
Gender is an important issue for the future of athletics.
To continue to grow and develop the sport needs to attract more participants – athletes, coaches, officials, volunteers, fans and so on and so forth.
Currently women are underrepresented in the sport’s leadership positions in many countries.
The aim of the project ‘Closing the Leadership Gender Gap in European Athletics’ is to find ways to address this situation and promote the development of women leaders at all levels of athletics.
The European Union has awarded a grant of more than €215,000 to a consortium of nine national athletics federations, the Malta Amateur Athletic Association being a full and equal partner, to conduct the survey.
A complete project report will be published on this webpage and circulated through the Maltese media in June 2011.
